New Home Groups and Prayer Meetings

After the summer recess, our home bible study groups are starting up again, but in a slightly altered format.

We're still meeting on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but now only on alternate weeks. In the intervening weeks there will be a prayer meeting in the church on the Monday evening.

This scheme reflects the importance of both bible study and prayer in the Christian life, both individual and corporate, while accepting that we are all quite busy and finding two week nights for church things every week can be hard.

We have a minister

With great anticipation and joy, Rev. Kate Lees was welcomed to Cottenham Baptist Church in a lovely induction service on September 13th.

The church was absolutely packed... mostly with friends from Kate's old church, who turned out in force to support her and Simon as they embark on a new chapter in their Christian service. For our part in Cottenham it was great to see so much love and prayer backing them up. We already suspected we were very lucky to get Kate, and this surely testifies to the truth of that.

Christian Women of the Parish Unite!

On Saturday the 21st of June, 37 Christian Women who either work, worship or live in Cottenham met together in the upstairs of our Baptist Church for a bring and share lunch. We had representatives from ten different churches, representing many of the Christian denominations.

The event started with a drink on arrival, before moving swiftly onto a game of "Human Bingo" as a way of getting to know each other and our interests. The room was soon filled with laughter and the decibels rose as new friendships and old kindred spirits were found. After this we shared a heartfelt prayer for the will of God to be done in Cottenham. This was followed by an uplifting and inspirational talk by Hilary Cheng, based on the theme of "one body", using 1 Corinthians 12:13 and Ephesians 3:20.

A worship song was next on the agenda to get us in mode of prayer. This was sung without instruments and was very powerful. Groupwork aimed at devising prayers for the village and its occupants came next as we explored the topics on the hearts of the women present.

Then finally on to a most fabulous lunch of salads and tempting puddings. Though I have to point out that there was no mad dash for the buffet as every one was still feasting on The Word and ongoing fellowship!

For anyone who was unable to attend or is hungry for more, the next event is already being planned for Saturday the 11th of October at All Saints' Church Hall. This will be organised by Debbie Prince, Maggie Appleby and Anna Marsh. Please put this date in your diary and watch this space as we may slip in an extra "afternoon tea" or "breakfast bash", just to keep the spiritual food levels topped up!

Can I personally thank Paula Mayes (CBC), Kim Green (Faith Life) and Malgorzata Jaruk (All Saints') for all their encouragement, support, prayers and practical help with this totally inspired and amazing event. A new season is coming, can you feel it!

In His service,
