About Us
Cottenham Baptist Church is a friendly family church with an actual membership of over 40 people and a congregation of 70 - 80 people on Sunday mornings. We are mission-minded, considering evangelism, social action and general outreach to be important, and we also welcome the community using the premises during the week.
We welcome all ages and all backgrounds into the church. There is usually a good mix of traditional hymns played on the organ, and more modern worship songs which are accompanied by a music group, who play a variety of instruments including guitars, cello, recorders, flute, piano and drums.
We have a congregation with a great diversity of gifts and these are exercised in the whole life of the church. Some members teach and help in the Supernova groups (Sunday School), which numbers around 20 children and young people ranging in age from 3 to 16. Some people have the gift of preaching and others within the church feel specially led towards pastoral care and outreach into the community.
There are currently five deacons, including the church secretary and the church treasurer.
Since 1996, there have been over twenty believers' baptisms, and others are being encouraged to make this public commitment.
We have a Church weekend away most years, when around fifty people enjoy a weekend together on the Norfolk coast. In the past we have also been to Spring Harvest, a Christian celebration over the Easter period, as a group. Some of us visit such Christian festivals regularly, and bring new songs, thoughts and inspiration back with them.
The church building has a comprehensive sound system, including a loop for the hearing-impaired, and all services are recorded and then copied for distribution to the housebound.
There is a modern kitchen, stair lift to the upper room, toilets with full facilities for the disabled, and a baby-changing unit.
A weekly notice sheet is printed on the premises and a diary sheet is produced monthly. Both of these are available electronically if preferred. The church office is within the main building.
